Lizzy Hull Barnes, M.Ed, is the Supervisor of Mathematics and Computer Science at San Francisco Unified School District. She has taught math to preschool through adults in schools in Louisiana and around the Bay Area and has supported fellow teachers and coaches in San Francisco.
Ho Nguyen, M.Ed., is the Program Administrator of Mathematics and Computer Science at San Francisco Unified School District. For over two decades, Ho has worked to support math instruction in San Francisco, first as a high school math teacher, then as a content specialist at the high school level, and now as a central office administrator.
Angela Torres, M.Ed., is a Professional Learning Coordinator for the UC San Diego Mathematics Project. Previously, Angela served as a Math Content Specialist in San Francisco Unified School District where she supported secondary math teachers through professional development, coaching, and curriculum support for almost a decade.
Laura Wentworth, PhD, is the Director of Research Practice Partnerships at California Education Partners. For over a decade, Laura has worked to unite research, policy and practice by directing the Stanford University and San Francisco Unified School District partnership. She supported the development of the Stanford-Sequoia K-12 Research Collaborative and the Oakland Unified School District and UC Berkeley Partnership.
Timothy P. Cusack, EdD, has more than thirty-two years of experience as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and superintendent. Having taught in rural boards in northern and southern Alberta, Tim also has ten years of experience as school leader (K-12) and eight years of experience as a system leader of a large urban board in Edmonton.
My "why" has evolved throughout my experience serving students in numerous educational settings as a professional developer, classroom teacher, leadership coach, reading specialist, administrator, and researcher. But no experience entirely shaped my why, like losing my former student who was shot and killed in Ferguson, Missouri.
Enya Granados is in her fifth-year teaching as a high school life science teacher in Athens, Georgia. Enya has a passion for curriculum writing and has worked with BSCS Science Learning as a curriculum teacher co-writer on climate change.
Karen Mesmer, PhD, taught middle and high school science for 33 years in both northwest Alaska and in Baraboo, Wisconsin. After she retired in 2015, she started Mesmer Science Education Consulting, working as a curriculum writer, reviewer, mentor and professional development facilitator focusing on the Next Generation Science Standards.
Kevin Gant has taught science and mathematics for 18 years, with most of his career focusing on physics education. In his most recent classroom work, he was a founder and the Lead Teacher at nex+Gen Academy, a public project-based high school in Albuquerque, NM. There he taught an Environmental Science and Statistics course from 2012 to 2016.
Laura Shafer, PhD, is a Senior Program Officer and Academy Instructor for the Knowles Teacher Initiative. She taught high school Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Integrated Science focusing on facilitating student engagement in the practices of science to develop disciplinary knowledge.
