For funds, he worked on ships out of Bali and Singapore.

Dawn Miller, Ph.D. is Associate Director of Technical Assistance of SWIFT Education Center at the University of Kansas.  Her early career focused on creating local educational support processes that address student needs and support educators and families.

Evelyn S. Johnson is an associate professor of special education at Boise State University and the coauthor of RTI: A Practitioner’s Guide to Implementing Response to Intervention. She began her career in Washington in 1994 as a special education teacher, and then at the University of Washington, Seattle, where her research focused on the inclusion of students with disabilities in accountability systems.

Aaron M. Kuntz is Assistant Professor of Qualitative Research Methodology at the University of Alabama. His research interests include social contexts of education, organizational culture, qualitative inquiry, identity theory, and democracy within the academy. Recently, he cotaught a course introducing inquiry to doctoral students with Rallis and Rossman.

Coby V. Meyers is a doctoral student in the Leadership, Policy, and Organizations program at Vanderbilt University. His current research interests include school improvement, sociology of education, and Islamic school education. Previously, he taught middle school and high school English at an Islamic school in the Chicago suburbs.

Mary Atkinson has over twenty-five years of experience in education as a teacher, curriculum consultant, and writer. She has worked both as an elementary Spanish bilingual teacher and a Spanish language teacher for grades K-12. She cowrote the Massachusetts World Languages Curriculum Framework and wrote the Texas Framework for Languages Other Than English. As a consultant to Center for Collaborative Education, Ms.

Leah Rugen, publications director, has worked at the Center for Collaborative Education since 1997 as writer, change coach, and program director of the national Turning Points network. Prior to working at CCE she worked for Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound, and the New York City Outward Bound Center. She began her education career teaching English and writing in public school in New York. She received her MAT in English from Brown University.

Susan Marcus, Ph.D., a long-time consultant with Robin Fogarty & Associates and formerly of Roosevelt University, has been in the field of educational consulting for over twenty years. With a rich background in special education, her passion is in nutrition education. Marcus believes that nutrition is often the missing clue to the mystery of why children can't learn and has developed a number of nutrition and behavior programs, including The Hungry Brain.

Priscilla L. Griffith is the Ruth G. Hardman Chair in Education and a Professor in the Department of Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum at the University of Oklahoma where she teaches undergraduate and graduate level literacy education courses. Priscilla has worked in language and literacy, and teacher education for over three decades.

Sara Ann (Sally) Beach is a professor of literacy education at the University of Oklahoma where she is coordinator of the reading program and teaches undergraduate and graduate literacy courses. Her professional experiences include teaching children from kindergarten through fifth grade and teaching teachers around the world to use reading and writing as a tool for thinking. Beach has worked with preschool teachers on Early Childhood Professional Educator and Early Reading First grants.

Jiening Ruan is associate professor of reading/literacy education in the College of Education at the University of Oklahoma, where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in reading and literacy education. She also directs the University of Oklahoma’s Reading Clinic and Reading Specialist Certification Program.
