She has received many honors including the Legacy Award as the Author of the 2005 Educator Book of the Year and the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the University of North Texas where she earned her Ph.D. She was also the first recipient of the Texas Gifted Educator of the Year Award.

Virginia Smith Harvey is professor and director of the school psychology program at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. Before becoming a university professor, she was a practicing school psychologist for 18 years and supervised school psychologists and interns throughout those years. Kathy McNamara is a professor of psychology at Cleveland State University, where she directs the School Psychology Specialist degree program. She currently serves as chair of the Ethics and Professional Practices Committee of the National Association of School Psychologists, and has been active in the leadership of the Ohio School Psychologists Association since 1984. John T. Guthrie is the Jean Mullan Professor of Literacy in the Department of Human Development at the University of Maryland, College Park. As Director of the Maryland Literacy Research Center, he studies motivations and strategies in reading at all school levels. Before coming to Maryland, he was Research Director for the International Reading Association.

Carol N. Dixon has worked as a reading clinician, university professor and administrator, and consultant to schools and universities around the country and abroad. In her role as a university faculty member, she directed a reading clinic and an MA in Reading/Reading Specialist Credential Program for 20 years.
