Dr. Lisa L. Lande has dedicated her professional endeavors to advocating for teachers and students around the globe.  It is her aspiration that every classroom in every school is one that she would want her own three children to learn in—a lens through which she continually measures her research, writing, and professional development efforts.  

Lotus Linton Howard, Ph.D., has taught in a variety of elementary school settings, including public, private, inner city, small town, rural and reservations schools. She created and taught for several years in a one-room country school, grades 1-8. Over forty years of teaching she has worked with children from very diverse cultural backgrounds and has observed, first-hand, how culture influences one’s perceptions, cognition, communication and attitudes.

John Malloy is the Director of Education for the Toronto District School Board. He has an Ed.D. in educational administration from the University of Toronto (OISE, UT).  Prior to being the Director of Education in Toronto, John held senior leadership positions at the Ontario Ministry of Education and in three other Ontario school boards.

Deborah Rosalea Esparza is a retired teacher, principal and district administrator. In her years as  practicing school leader,  Deborah advocated for culturally responsive instruction for all students in a 21st Century Learning framework.

Dr. Jeff Zwiers was previously a senior researcher in the Stanford University Graduate School of Education and is now an educational consultant. He has taught all subjects bilingually in secondary and elementary settings. His research and work focus on collaborating with teachers to enhance instruction and assessment for multilingual students, with an emphasis on improving student–student interactions.

Patty McGee is a nationally recognized literacy consultant, speaker, and educator with a passion for transforming classrooms into spaces where language and learning come alive.

Justin Boyle is an assistant professor at the University of Alabama. He is interested in learning how best to develop secondary mathematics teachers, so that they are prepared to engage their future students in becoming intellectually curious about mathematics. In particular, he uses reasoning-and-proving as a way to investigate and discuss the truth of mathematical statements, concepts and objects.

Gabriel J. Stylianides is Professor of Mathematics Education at the University of Oxford (UK) and Fellow of Oxford’s Worcester College. A Fulbright scholar, he received MSc degrees in mathematics and mathematics education, and then his PhD in mathematics education, at the University of Michigan. He has conducted extensive research in the area of reasoning-and-proving at all levels of education, including teacher education and professional development.

PJ Caposey’s has had a wide range of educational experiences throughout his career. Mr. Caposey’s educational career began by receiving the Golden Apple Scholarship in high school which supports students pursue their dream to teach by providing scholarship money and training in return for a commitment to teach in a need-based area. Mr. Caposey did just that after completing his studies at Eastern Illinois University by teaching at Percy Lavon Julian High School in the inner-city of Chicago.

Lisa Westman has over 15 years of experience as a teacher (gifted humanities, English Language Arts, social studies), and as an instructional coach specializing in differentiation. Lisa is a currently a writer, consultant, and speaker, working with school systems across the country to effectively implement student-driven differentiation, standards based learning, and instructional coaching programs.
